If you can read this (and you are using a graphics-enabled browser), your browser is probably not standards-compliant and so, while the content will still be perfectly readable, the layout on this page will probably look a bit weird. If at all possible you should consider using a standards-compliant browser. I seriously recommend Mozilla Firefox. It's fully standards-compliant - and best of all, it's free!
Gaughan's Irish tour Epistle, Part the First
Dublin, 4.30pm, Thursday 11th Oct 2001
Seems I hardly had time to draw breath since getting back from the US and here we go again - Ireland this time.
Took the fast ferry from Holyhead to Dublin and got here last night, Wednesday 10th, ready for the first gig tonight in Whelan's in Wexford St where I have played many times before. I'll be back here again next Thursday after trips to Cork and Galway.
The hotel I'm in is right across the street from the Garda headquarters and the entire street is meter parking. Bit of a problem so I had a brief consultation with the woman at reception.
"Let's suppose for the sake of argument that I'm less than inclined to get out of bed at 7am in the morning and put money in the meter ....."
That's as far as I got before she burst out laughing and told me about somebody that morning who had their car towed away. The citizens of Dublin's fair city have a rare and refined sense of humour. So I have been running down the stairs every 3 hours to avoid the wrath of Dublin's finest falling upon me.
Tomorrow is Friday so it must be Cork.
