Dick Gaughan's Website

This site is built to the W3C standards for website authoring. If you can read this (and you are using a graphics-enabled browser), your browser is probably not standards-compliant and so, while the content will still be perfectly readable, the layout on this page will probably look a bit weird. If at all possible you should consider using a standards-compliant browser. I seriously recommend Mozilla Firefox. It's fully standards-compliant - and best of all, it's free!

Absolute Beginner's Guide Contents

The author is not a technical expert, simply a long-time user of newsgroups; this guide is based purely on my own observations and makes no pretence at being in any way authoritative. As I am a musician and a regular poster to the newsgroup uk.music.folk, any examples given are for that newsgroup but should be applicable across most of Usenet.

Written around 1998, some of this is slightly out of date but much of it is still of relevance. If anyone has any comments or suggestions I'd be delighted to receive them.
